DESIGN PRINCIPLES:

     BALANCE = Visual Stability
     Achieved by equal weight either actual or visible on opposite sides of an imaginary central axis either vertically & horizontally Pleasing visual weight of colors textures & form.

     RHYTHM = Dominant Visual Path
     Created by a linear visual path of color, or lines or forms, repeated through the design as it leads the eye from the focal area through the design. Sweeping fluid lines and color carries eye easily. Clever use of space enhances rhythm.

     CONTRAST = Opposites Used Together
     Achieved by placing opposites or unlike characteristics of a single element (color, line, form or texture) together in order to emphasize their differences Line short or long straight or curved, Color light or dark, intense or weak Texture rough or smooth etc.

     DOMINANCE = More of one or more of the Elements
     Achieved by one or more of a particular characteristic of an element (color, form, texture or line) dominating by repeating itself to unify the design. More straight lines than curved, more round forms than angular etc.

     PROPORTION = Comparative Relationship of Areas and Amounts
The pleasing ratio between areas and amounts (color, form, etc.) as they relate to one another- pleasing ratio between area occupied by the design and space allotted. Pleasing proportions require unequal amounts, areas & dimensions. Height of arrangement relative to its width etc.

     SCALE = Size Relationship
     Achieved by a pleasing relationship of the size of one object and parts to each other . Ex.- No flower used in a container should be more than 1/3 the size of container itself.
